Software needed = VLC media player
Procedure
1. Open VLC media player
2. In the top menu, click on Media. In the drop-down menu, click on Convert / Save...
3. A dialog window titled Open Media will open. In this dialog window, there are four tabs named File, Disc, Network, Capture Device. Click on File tab. Click on +Add... button. A dialog window will open for selecting a file. Select the .mp4 file whose size you want to reduce. Click on Open.
4. Click on Convert / Save button.
5. A dialog window titled Convert will open. In this dialog window, see the drop down list for Profile. From the drop down list, choose Video for Youtube HD.
6. You have to provide Destination file: by clicking on Browse button. Do not overwrite the original .mp4 file. Provide a different file name. Click on Save button.
7. Click on Start button.
8. VLC media player goes in the background. Wait till the file conversion is in progress. You can see the progress by clicking on the VLC media player and observing the blue colored progress bar.
9. When file conversion will be complete, close VLC media player. Observe the difference in file sizes.
Please note: Instead of Video for Youtube HD, you could choose some other Profile of your choice. Based on the profile you choose, size of the file will vary.
